Site idea

Hi all,

I want to build a website for my business. I run a catering company and we have recently expanded into gift hampers. I would like to build a web application to allow visitors to my site to build and order their hamper online. I'm a bit unsure what the best applications to use for this are going to be though. I have limited experience with PHP and MySQL and would like to integrate these so that the client can go to the site, select x number of articles to put in the hamper and then order it online. I have all the products that I want in the hampers in a MySQL database, but I'm having problems finding some good PHP tutorials to help me build the backend to get all the data from a web form. I want a simple checkbox for hamper sizes and then checkboxes for each of the products, with a value assigned to each checkbox, so that the site calculates how much it will cost for the user. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd be really grateful!

Hey,

If you have limited experience with such a task, I would steer away from developing it yourself - You could leave open security holes for others to use.

Look into osCommerce (php/sql web based application) that handles online inventory / e-commerce, this may be what you are looking for.

i'd second that motion. at the very least, i'd try to get someone that is extremely familiar with the workings of ecommerce to run along side you and make sure you're not leaving any holes open. you may want to look at some open source systems such as zencart to get some ideas, though.
