Help to create "News" Section

Hi.

I am new to all of this stuff and have only ever created basic pages in Dreamweaver in HTML.

I have been asked to create a new website for the support department of our comany.

They are looking for a "News" section that will propogate news events from a MSSQL database, to which there is a DSN available on the web server.
What we would like is a to show x number of topics, or better still, have them scrolling in date order

Is this possible?

If there is any samples or templates that people can point me in the direction of then I would be most grateful.

Yes, all this is possible. One route that I've used for this is to leverage the relationship between PHP and Macromedia Flash, and have a flash movie which takes the most recent 10 news headlines from the MS SQL db and scrolls them across the screen, with each headline being a link to the full news story, or as full as you have it, within the database.

Why use flash, you can just use the marquee HTML tag to do a scroller. If you look on my Transformers website you'll see a scrolling marquee. That is a horizontal scroller, but you can also do a vertical one.

Then you just read the news stories out and put them into that HTML tag.

You just have to makesure you test if in different browsers as mozilla and IE handle the speed differently
