CSV file?

Im trying to write a csv file with php, but one of the fields contains commas and they need to be escaped.

I thought you could escape them for excel by enclosing them in double quotes but the quotes just show up as characters and the commas arent escaped

I am using this to add the double quotes

$csv_address='"' . $address . '"';

any ideas?

$fp = fopen("file.csv", 'w');

fwrite($fp, "NAME, JOB, COMPANY, ADDRESS, TEL, EMAIL, PCs, REGDATE\n");

$csv_address='"' . $address . '"';

fwrite($fp, "$title $firstname $lastname, $job, $company, $csv_address, $tel, $email, $pcs, $regdate\n");

you may be better off choosing another delimiter if your data is regularly going to contain commas. excel is pretty good about letting you import other types of files as well. for instance, you may be able to import it if you use pipes "|" as your separators instead. another option if you want to stick with a true CSV is to replace your commas with another character (like a "^"). that way, when you read the file back out, you could simple do another replacement back to commas and have your data restored.
