How can I code this?

And would it take long? I have absolutely no PHP experience at all

This is what I would like to do-
I am starting a fantasy tennis game at tennis-forums.com. I would like to use the same database that my forums use so members can sign up from there.

Each member can start the game off by selecting players who cost them money depending on their rankings and results. The players are placed in categories according to the rankings too. (eg. category 1 would be top 10 players etc)

I would like to code so that I can easily click on a player, say, Roger Federer and add the points that he earnt that week so that they automatically add onto everyone's total that has Roger Federer in their team. (If that makes sense!)

We simply cant explain how to code such a thing when you dont understand the language we speak (php). Learn php first, then you will know how to code such applications yourself.

I think for a project like this the starting point is your database design, what you are trying to do isn't that complex but the database design has to be right from day zero or you could cause yourself a lot of pain down the track.

So, before you worry about PHP, how are you on SQL, are you going to be using MySQL, MS SQL, SQLite or some other flavour ?

The PHP isn't going to be much more complicated than querying the right combination of tables at any one time.

I will be using MySQL. I'm not really good with SQL queries either, but I know my way around PHPMyAdmin fairly well.

PHPMyAdmin is a good place to start.

If you look at mysql.com under the products you'll find a tools section. I'd suggest MySQL Query Browser would be worth downloading, this allows you to test your queries are providing the results you expect (especially when you are joining several tables) before you start writing any PHP code.

When you've designed your tables in MySQL, and written your queries using real data (i.e. finding information where customer_id = 1 and player_id =4 or whatever), then come back to us and we'll help with the PHP side of things as much as possible.
