Would anyone have a problem with this statement?

$mid = ($GET[mid]) ? $GET[mid] : 0;

I have not been able to find any situation that this would not work, but wanted to make sure before commiting to something like this.

My concerns would be efficinecy and if this is a mindul procedure.

If this stupid or just normal coding?

I've used this before, quite a nice, quick way of writing it too.. especially if you want to ensure that that zero is used if it's not set.. then again, would you be better off using something like: -

$mid = isset($GET[mid]) ? $GET[mid] : 0;

seeming that the first parameter is a boolean thing

I beleive isset($var) is the same as ($var) in this case. Not 100% though.

It depends on what kind of checking you've already done on $GET['mid']. We don't know how $GET['mid'] is set and what kind of values are acceptable. Let's say someone sends a space or a bunch of spaces. Is that going to break your app? Unless you check for it then mid will equal $mid = ' '; instead of 0 which is what you might be thinking.
And another thing:

$_GET[mid]

should be

$_GET['mid']
