OT- Neckties?

Hey do you guys wear neckties to work?

Weird question, I know, just wondering if a "php" tie would sell or not.

I'd wear it!

Although, having said that, the current position I am in, is that I am the ONLY pupil in my school with an official school tie in YELLOW. So you know... I stand out.

Well, I'd have to point you back to my picture in that old thread I can't remember the title of, and haven't time ATM to look for.

Polo. New ones this year, "5th anniversary 2001-2006." Grey instead of blue, and the logo instead of just text.

That said, I've a big bunch of ties ... 4-5 dozen at least. Since I left teaching, though, I pretty much only wear them at funerals or on Sunday, and it depends on which church I'm going to and whether or not it seems the "expected" norm....

Fortunately, Sundays happen more frequently than funerals, most of the time.

I think your target market would be large company, mid- or higher-level management. But, what do they care about PHP?

Well, considering how quickly someone is doing with the T-shirts, I can't say it's a sure thing. If you could deliver, though, I'd probably pick one up, as it's PHP, and from GFE (heh!, still laughing) and all.

But I don't know how often I'd wear it.

as to the original question... yep, sure do! i kinda have to right now, so it's definitely not by choice, but i think a PHP tie would rock! lol

I do not wear a tie to work, and would rather not. But I might wear a PHP polo shirt if I had one.

I uesd to have a <?php shirt from Tim Perdue way back when... WAYYY back when he made this site.

A lot of the twentieth century can be explained by the popularity of neckties during the period.

The last time I had to wear one was back in 2001, on a contracting gig to what was then Compaq, and then it was an Old School job (because it was a high-quality tie I could get without having to pay high-quality prices).

So, I wouldn't exactly count myself in that market 🙂

The job I'm in at the moment is great. I can wear what I like. Except when I have Important Meetings with Important People. When I have to wear a suit, but I can still get away without having to wear a tie.

The thing I never understand is why most computer companies I've worked for insist that you at least wear a shirt and smart(ish) trousers. It's not as if any of my clients ever came to the office. I always went to theirs and I wore a tie for them.

However, I reckon a PHP tie would look very cool. I'd buy one. If I could get it shipped to the UK.

I would think a nice baseball hat would be good - and by nice I don't mean the generic crap that you get normally. Quality is important.

Anything with 'good' design will sell I bet. And certainly many things with 'bad/boring' design will sell as well.

At the last place I worked, it started out as a meritocracy. If you proved yourself, you advanced. Casual wear was the order of the day for development staff.

Then, we got an idiot of a CIO in who wouldn't know the difference between a linked list and hard drive, and suddenly there was a strictly enforced dress code. Everyone knew it was the beginning of the end. The death knell if you will.

Around here, the police break up the fistfights during city council. Besides, no jurisdiction.

The sheriff's men have jurisdiction, but they're busy canning meth cookers.

The state police ... perhaps. 😉
