simple question, i just want to be able to add 1 to a current # already in database once someone is directed to a page.... how do i go by doing that?

Not sure, try retrieving the existing value in the database into a variable, say called $x, then go $x = $x +1; then write the new number back to the database field.

You'll need to enclose the $user in the query in single quotes.

And it might help a little more if you could tell us what the error is.

there is no error, its just doesnt update the mysql at all

There is no error because you are not printing out errors. You need to use mysql_error() on the query to print out any errors:

$result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());

The error message is pretty self-explanatory. You cannot use $user_info[user_id] unless user_id is defined as a constant, which you have not done. You have to put single quotes around the index you are trying to reference:

$user_info['user_id']

Same goes for the other two undefined constant erros I'd wager.

OK, so now there is no errors but its not updating the Num+1 part

Maybe try adding some spaces...

"UPDATE users SET num = num + 1 WHERE user_id='$user'"

Shouldn't matter but....

And... silly question, but your field is called num right?

yes, the clumn on the mysql database is called num

If user_id is a number field, then you dont need the single quotes around $user in the query. Number fields do not requre quotes, char/text fields do require them.

You also do not need or die(..) after setting the query string. Only after executing the query.

Add echo $query after $query = ... and $result = ... to see exactly what its trying to do.
