directory permission 341? HELP

Somehow my php created a folder with permissions 341 that can't be deleted or renamed and has no contents. I've tried rm directory, rm -rf directory, chmod directory 755, etc. I can make a new folder of the same name with permissions 755, oddly enough. But I can't get rid of the old, mutant folder. Does anyone know how this happened or how to fix it?

The "mutant" folder has some characters in it that are not being displayed. Try (as root, of course)

rm -f -r 341

to get rid any folder with those three characters in the name. Be sure of course it will not match any folder you need to keep since this should get them all.

Alternatively you can do:

rm -r *

and you will get a confirmation request for each name and just answer 'y'es to the correct one(s) and - very important - 'n'o to the ones you want to keep. This is very dangerous because a slip of the finger could remove something yo need.

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work but I'm sort of limited with the Unix commands I can run because I don't have terminal access active for the site. I've been running commands in php as system($cmd). It's been working so far for things like ls, rm, and so on, but in a situation like this I guess I'll just have to have tech support fix it (with a screwdriver, or maybe a magnetic sledgehammer...).
