parsing txt file

Hi,
I'm looking to parse a txt file that looks like this:

barfield,josh   padr 2B   3  11   3   0   0   0   2   0   0   1   0   0   0   1   1   0   0
barmes,clint    rock SS   4  20   4   0   1   0   3   0   0   6   0   0   0   0   0   0   0
barrett,michael cubs  C   3  13   3   2   0   0   1   3   1   1   0   0   2   1   0   0   0
batista,tony    twin 3B   3  10   2   1   0   1   2   1   1   3   0   0   0   1   0   0   0
bay,jason       pira OF   5  17   5   0   0   1   3   1   4   4   0   0   2   0   0   0   0

These are just a few sample lines, there are many more. I'm trying to put each column into an array. Also explode the name in to first and last. My end goal is to take array and dump it to the db. Any pointers to get me in the right direction would be appreciated..

You could probably explode it into an array using the tab ('\t') character. Then to explode the name into first and last simply explode that element in the array using the comma.

Each row would be a record in the db not each column in this situation as far as i can tell.

I would do the string replace on the comma first and then explode on the spaces / tabs. That would save one explode function per line of data.

ok, thanks guys...I think I have the general concept...Now hopefully I can code it right, which is doubtful 🙂
