Unethical promotion tactics

I've been browsing other web development forums recently and spotted a disturbing number of people who utilise what I consider dirty promotion tactics to plug their sites. I see widespread use of MySpace whoring etc to generate traffic to their sites and I personally find the practice unsavoury.

Dont get me wrong I'm all for promoting your work, but I'm of the school which believes that its the quality of your product and the effort you put in to make your site attractive to visitors which should pay off, not free links from thousands of fake friends on MySpace.

What do you guys think ?

I think the same think, like u said above , but the things is everyone is thinking on dirty tricks, I know how hard it is to promote your website.
any way some people dont understand and you cant do nothing about it.
