Download multiple files in one http request

Hi,

I have lots of images on my site, and even if they are compressed and small it takes a lot of HTTP requests and slows download time.

I found a script for ASP which allows someone to download a page as a single http request.

Anyone aware something similar to PHP? 🙂

If you have linux command line execute rights, then you can use a recurisive WGET to do all the work for you in a single command.

I will contact my system administrator, hopefully they can assist with this.

Would there be any other way that you are aware of?

Like, would it be possible to collect all the images, zip them up and send it across like that.

The images are optimized, and are like 4-5KBs but still, a zipper can wrap it up even more 🙂

that's what i would suggest. ZIP them all up into a single archive by calling the pkzip binary using [man]exec[/man] then send the ZIP file using [man]header[/man]
