Web based Comparison shopping

Am I right in thinking that a PHP script plus My SQL Database will do the following job for me?

I want to create a web based system that enables comparison shopping of business opportunities.
(see www.iselect.com.au and www.mobileselect.com.au for examples of similar processes)

The system will incorporate:

Seller side

Seller to complete a webform with their business profile data which goes into My SQL database
Information from My SQL db to be used in an automatic calculation for a rating system (includes weighting of responses and final calculation) through PHP script
That information to generate a Profile webpage of the seller for public viewing
That data also to be utilised in automatically generating a HTML Profile Report for the seller's information

Buyer side

Buyer enters their requirements re business opportunities via webform (single page or various decision trees
System sorts and filters through the buyer selections
Generates final selections on page for Buyer to see
Buyer selects opportunity
System generates:

a) Buyer Profile based on information gathered at 1.

b) Buyer Profile sent to Seller

c) Automatic tracking and follow up of both buyer and seller to track outcome

Does this sound like a job for PHP and My SQL?

Short answer: Yes.

However, if this is your first experience with PHP/MySQL then I suggest you start off with some smaller things first, pick up the basic syntax of the language, learn how to connect to the database and insert, update and delete records in the DB first. Maybe on a basic project before venturing into an application like you have outlined.
