Deleting files on window close

Hi,

The plan is to have an alert popup when the user closes a window, this popup should only have one button (OK). When the user presses ok a php script should run on the server and then the window should close.

Another option would be for the php script to run in the parent window.

Can anyone help?

There are many people here that may be able to help you. However, for best results it is highly advisable to post the code snippets that you are working on and explain what kind of error messages you are receiving, or explain what happens versus what you expect should happen when the script runs. That way people can see what you have/are developing and may best help you trouble-shoot the script.

To get you started, why not read the unlink function to learn how you can use PHP to delete a file: http://www.php.net/unlink If you are beyond that, then post your code and explain specifically where the problem is or where you are hung up.

A lot of what you're talking about is client-side scripting as well, such as using Javascript's "onclose" handler in conjunction with an alert() box and window.open or something similar to execute a PHP script.

As the name suggests, PHPBuilder is a community that supports PHP. If you attempt the server-side part of the script and run into trouble, you should definitely do as Rodney said and post your code snippet that you tried and we'll help you out where you erred.

As to the client-side part (requiring Javascript, etc.), there is a ClientSide Technologies forum that can possibly help you with any questions.
