[RESOLVED] Help with Godaddy Web Hosting

My website is shared-hosted at Godaddy.com. To cut it short, all my web files (both php and html), except for index.htm itself, would end up "The page cannot be found" even when they exist in my webhosting directory. Also, if I embed-in any php commands in the index.htm, they never got executed.

Everything was working fine 10 days ago. I just do not want to call godaddy again, because for this week alone, I had spent 90 minutes of overseas call and end up not solving anything. Godaddy's email support also never got answered in 48 hours or even in 240 hours. Furthermore, I would want to believe that they have not configured their server wrongly.

Kindly point me to the right direction. Thank you.

Get a real host... that's the easy answer:

ixWeb Hosting
Host Exellence

You can't embed PHP in an HTM(L) page. PHP needs to have the php or php3 extension to work.

I just thought that I need to understand what happened here. For the past 4 months, all my PHP and MYSQL worked just fine at Godaddy. Now, not even www.khrystels.com/main.htm (or any other htm and php files) would load up. Only if I rename them to www.khrystels.com/index.htm would they load up but still it won't be able to link to any other html files.

I can program on PHP and MYSQL but not yet familiar with server configurations. I was hoping somebody could help me pinpoint the problem so I could avoid the same in the future. Thanks again! 🙂

Have you moved the files? Are they inside the appropraite directory (public_html, www, etc.) ?

Have you tried chmod'ing them to 777 or something like that to ensure it's not a permissions problem?

Other than that, I'd say you'll have to talk to your host. As bpat said, switching hosts might be the way to go if you are unsatisfied - there's just too many webhosts out there that it's not worth sticking with an unplesant one. I posted a link for Servage.net in my sig because that's what I use for one of my websites... tons of space, tons of bandwidths, all kinds of features, a support ticket system to talk with the various departments... it hasn't been too bad of an experience at all.

That's why I put them at the top of the list. They seem to do a really good job.

Permissions shouldn't be a problem, unless GoDaddy screwed something up. Most likely they updated Apache or whatever they use to host and it messed everything up. A good host will actually test new software products first before putting them into production environments.

If he truly didn't do anything this drastic (I don't know that you should be ABLE to do something this drastic on a shared hosting if they're competent hosts), then yeah, more than likely they goofed something up, though you'd think they would dedicate an entire server just for testing and whatnot... shrug
