Simple Quick question

Hi,

I'm sure there is a simple and quick answer to this.

I want to display some result from a database but I want to alternate how they are displayed. I.e the first result will look a certain way, lets say bold the next not bold.

This will continue, so it will be bold,normal,bold,normal,bold.. etc

I'm sure theres a quick answer to this. Thanks for your help.

when you print the rows just do a
$color=true;
// loop

if ($color)
echo '<tr bgcolor="#CCCCCC">'
else
echo '<tr>'
$color = !$color
// end loop

another common method assuming that your primary key field is an integer is to test for odd/even:

$array = range(1, 10);

foreach ($array as $value)
{
	if ($value & 1) {echo '<b>' . $value . '</b>';}
	else {echo $value;}
	echo '<br>';
}

Or you could use the % modulo operator with rows like this.

$count=1;
$num= mysql_num_rows($result);
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC))
{
   if($count%2){
    echo "<tr><td>{$row['first']}</td>"; 
    echo "<td>{$row['last']}</td>";  

    echo "<td>{$row['phone']}</td></tr>";
    $count++;
    }
	else{
	echo "<tr bgcolor=lightgrey><td>{$row['first']}</td>"; 
    	echo "<td>{$row['last']}</td>";  

    	echo "<td>{$row['phone']}</td></tr>";
		$count++; 
	} 
 } 
echo "</table>";
?>

This would give all odd rows as a normal white background and all even rows with a lightgrey background.

Thanks, I sorted it myself with a bit of reading around with..

$numofrows = mysql_num_rows($result);
for($i = 0; $i < $numofrows; $i++);
if($i % 2) { $color = "#FFFFFF"; }
else { $color = "#FFCC99"; }
