Need 2 actions! (BASIC I know!)

Hi guys,

This is real basic I'm afraid, totally new to PHP. A common issue I'm sure but can't quite find what I'm looking for.
I have a very simple HTML form (familiar with HTML) that has been running for some time with one action, posting submitted data to a CRM tool for storage, nice and easy.

However, now I want to add a second action whereby depending on the data entered, an email can be triggered to me that contains the data submitted.

For example, if the user specifies that they would like to receive a brochure I need an email triggered to me to say "Hey Jackass, send this guy a brochure, here is the address" Then of course his given address is listed for me.

So, one form 2 actions, turn to PHP they screamed!, and here we are.

So, total beginner, no fool though, who wants to take this on eh comrades? Nice 'n' easy I'm sure.

You could add a checkbox or radio button that if selected within the form when the page goes to the processing form you just do that particular action in addition to or only if selcted in the form there is no need to have two action which you can't really do anyway. just add new code to the form that adds the above mentioned and then in the page it goes to test the condition and proceed from there.

It is a radio button within the form.

Please send me your current brochure (radio button y/n)

So if they select yes then action 2 is required, if no then just the one action.

That make sense?

Simple as that. If no brochure variable, the first action isn't performed; the second one always is. Like magic! (Houdini joke --- he is already a legend, y'know....) 😉

I've looked at the source and so what is it you are wanting to do depending on the answers to the brochure and/or the regular newsletter? I would think the you would want to put that data along with the other into a database and do more than whatever it is you are presently doing with the information. Like maybe send them an e-mail thanking them for choosing either the newsletter and or the brochure. I did notice that you are using ASP, so do you also have PHP support on the host you are using?

Yeh PHP is supported.

You will see that one of the questions is "Please send me your current brochure" with a yes/no radio button. This is where the second action must come in.

I need a script that carries out the following actions on this form once submitted:

The current action still runs (action="http://uk.tlcollect.com/lb.asp?ID=9260Qwrku7599pl2")
IF the user selects 'yes' to the brochure question then an email is triggered to DianneM@emreco.co.uk that must appear From:support@estylegroup.com that lists the other data in the form (Name, Address etc) so that Dianne can post that person a brochure. If the person selects 'no' to the brochure question then just the original action runs.

I reckon this is a really simple task and have read several forum posts on the web about it but to be honest I can't be arsed to learn PHP and write the script myself. Maybe PHP isn't the way of course! lol

hmmm I have no idea how to send the action to two different loactions, thats a mystery to me...what i do know is the following:

if ($_POST['brochure'] == "yes")
{
$to = "your@email.here";
$subject = "Your subject here";
$message ="Your message here";
$header .= "From: From someone";

mail($to, $subject, $message, $header);
}

If you want to inlcude the info from the fields in this email, just use $_POST['field-name-here']

Might want to do a wordwrap() for the message cause the line can't exceed 72 characters using mail() so they need a newline so

$message =wordwrap($message,72,"\r\n<br />");

$message =wordwrap($message,72,"\r\n";

OK, so, not so simple? You want to write a form and POST it to an ASP page, and still have PHP do a process as well?

AFAIK, HTTP doesn't allow this. Have the ASP page do the mailing, or rewrite the whole thing in PHP, unless, just unless you aren't actually POSTing info to the ASP page, in which case you could write the email, send it, and header() the browser to the ASP page (only reason I mention this is 'cause I see a GET string there ... I'm guess that data is actually being posted, and the query string is actually for "referrer" or some such :rolleyes: )
