simple way to duplicate a file with a new name ?

I'm trying to figure out how to duplcate an existing image file and save it in the same directory but with a new name

the new name part is not a problem - I have a random name function - but i can't work out where to go using maybe fopen() ...

can someone point me in the right direction ? perhaps there's a function that does this ?

assuming the script is in the same directory as the copied files (if not just add directory info at the fron of the filename): (includes some error handling too)

$file = "old_filename.txt";
$new_file = "new_random_name.txt";

if (!copy($file, $new_file))
{
echo 'Failed to copy file!';
}
