PHP DESIGNER 2006 is it any good

I have found the following software PHP DESIGNER 2006 v4.06 (on the following website http://www.yesitsfree.co.uk ) is it any good

I am new to php and am wanting to convert a website I have which is a business index to database driven. So as my hosting server is php and MySQL, I need to learn PHP first is the above programme a good starter or can anybody reccomend something else that would be better.

I am using dreamweaver at the moment and xhtml. But I have 164 static pages I think database would be better.

It's okay. WeBuilder 2006 is good as well, but it's not free. The best would be the Zend IDE, but that's like 400 bucks.

Honestly, the best program is one you feel comfortable working in. If you can't feel comfortable working in it, it's not for you.

But to learn PHP, you can't do that through a program. You need books, or tutorials to do that. The program is just an aide in getting you to the final project quicker so you don't have to constantly switch between windows to look up functions or get quick tips.

I like PHP Designer generally, the syntax highlighting helps with careless errors.

However it can be annoying that when you type { it adds a } for you, especially when you are editing code and thus don't want it there.

But as free editors go, it is as good as any of them IMHO.

A feature which can be found in many applications (like Notepad++, Komodo, PHP Designer, WeBuilder, Rapid PHP, Edit Plus, Vim, etc..)

I believe you can turn this feature off. It's called Matching Brace and you can select which ones you want to complete automatically for you:
() [] {}

But as free editors go, it is as good as any of them IMHO.

Very true.... they're all kind of the same. Depends on whether you want one with all the frills that PHPDesigner 2006 has....

For the price FREE (I love free) it is really great and is not really that big an application, with many features you may never even use. It will help spped up your writing and testing of PHP.
