[RESOLVED] Undefined functon socket_create()

Hi all,
I'm trying to use socket_create() function from my PHP script and getting this error:
"Call to undefined function: socket_create()"
I'm running PHP 4.4.2 on Linux with Apache 2.0.
I checked phpinfo() and it displays
'--enable-sockets=shared'
inside "Configure" command info. I assume that it means this PHP was configured with this option, right?
Can somebody explain what is wrong then?

First of all the configure option shud only be '--enable-sockets' (no shared, nothing of that sort)

Second, if sockets are not pre-compiled with PHP, you may have to dynamically load the socket extension, by uncommenting this line in php.ini

;extension=sockets.so

Finally restart ur webserver and check out phpinfo again. It shud have a separate section alltogether SOCKETS - Enabled.

You may want to consider using fsockopen rather than socket_create - although it gives you less control, it's the higher level, easier and more modern way of doing it.

Obviously it would depend what sort of thing you're doing.

My sysadmin configured php and he used this option --enable-sockets=shared saying that socket extension is loaded as shared module.
Anyway extension=sockets.so in php.ini solved my problem.
