XML Parsing with PHP4

Hi, i've only recently started programming in php and am in the middle of developing a LAMP driven site (pipod.tv ). I have been testing it locally using php5 and things have been going well but when I uploaded it the the machine it will be hosted on it didn't go quite as smoothly as planned. After a bit of debugging i managed to locate simplexml_load_string as the source of my problems. Basically its a php5 thing and the host only runs php4. Is there a php4 equivalent or am I going to have to right a new xml parsing class?

what about getting a new host? or asking your admin to upgrade the php?

SimpleXML makes it a lot easier to parse a simple xml document. Old methods that were used to parse XML takes you through hell and high water to parse a simple xml document.

So, you need to either find a host with php 5, or re-write your parser the old way.

Ok, I have just lodged a ticket with the hosting company asking if there are any plans of upgrading to php5 in the near future, but i don't like my chances. (for the record i didn't organise hosting)

I have been looking into using xml_parse but have run into issues when opening and closing tags are on seperate lines or when there is a tag like: <itunes:category text="Information Technology"/>

Does anyone know if there is a class or function out there already the can do what simplexml_load_string does, but in php4?
