query string works like php sessions?

hey everyone!

first of all i wanna say hi coz im new here on this forum 🙂

i hope to help as much as i (and my experience) know and also get help from other memebers as well..

im building a shopping site

every value needed to be moved from one page to another is sent using the query string so there is no reason that info will be lost when moving from one page to another..

now,

as for such application it is obvious that many users need to be able to surf (shop) the site altogether..

i wanted to know if i must use php seasons even that im using the query string

with query strings it means that my site is capable of handling many users shopping\browsing at the same time?

or it has nothing to do with and i must be using seasons for it?

(im asking all these questions cause from what i currently know, a season is being created to make sure values that need to be transfered from one page to another won't be lost on the way.. and the query string is getting this same job done....or there is more?)

i've already created all the basic interface for the site, including viewing categorizing items and etc...basic search engine...showing each item in a details-page and so on.... i want to start working on the shopping-cart mechanism and need to be sure that it will be able to handle multiple users at the same time online..

p.s: sorry but i cant post any of this site's code for the request of the client
so i hope you wont need it for knowing what im on about..

any help/info/tips/tutorial will be appreciated

It is possible to maintain a client session using query string variables, but its tricky. You have to think carefully about what will happen when the user clicks his browser's 'Back' and 'Forward' buttons. Or when he navigates to another page and then expects to come back and see his session restored automatically.

You will find it much easier if you use either PHP's session handling facilities (to store session variables on the server-side) or JavaScript cookies (to store session variables on the client-side).

There's plenty of information about both techniques available in this forum's archives as well as on the web at large.

so if i wanted to "convert" all the "query string" work i've already done in my code to seasons method.... should it be hard to do?

or only use the start/create/destroy season functions and convert all "POST..GET.." to SEASON ?

i wanna know what method would be better to mantain since i've already build a big part of variable-dependent code using the query string..

is it possible to perfectly use query string method and also seasons without conflict?

so when a season is not needed i'll use query strings and when needed i'll create a season...

sorry im really new to this seasons function..
