[RESOLVED] How would I make this loop through?

Hello,

I am curious about I would loop one of my statements through. Here's the code I currently have, but I know it's completely wrong for what I'm trying to acheive.

$urlpage = 'http://yahoo.com'; // The page I'm at
$link1 = parse_url($urlpage);  // Getting the array for the url breakdown
$link2 = ''; // Making sure link 2 is nothing


if ($link2 != $link1[host]) { // Since link 2 is nothing or is not exact anyways I want to start my loop.
  $link = nth_link($urlpage, 15);

}

As you can see the very bottom of this is halfway coded only because I got lost on the loop issue. I want it do this theoretically. (The loop anyways)

If link2 does not currently equal the host of link 1, then start the loop.
Once the loop is started.. if the link that is brought back by the nth_link doesnt have the host of link1 then keep on going on to the 16th link and on and on and on.
The first condition of link2 not equaling shouldn't come back positive as it hasn't started so pretty much everything (the go around loop) will be inside of the if conditional statement of if ($link2 != $link1[host]) {}

Your third point is what throws you off. Start the loop conditionally, and maintain that conditionality with "while":

$iteration = 0;
$success = true;
while ($link2 != $link1['host]') {
    if ($iteration++ == 16) {
        $success = false;
        break;
    }
    $urlpage = parse_url(nth_link($urlpage, 15));
    $link2 = $urlpage['host'];
}
if ($success) {
    echo "link match found";
}

Something like that, depending on exactly what you're trying to do.

Thanks. I wasn't aware using the while statement was better. 🙂 I have one more question, you don't have to show any code, etc as an example I'll work it out as I need a challenge, but would it be possible to while statements inside of while statements? Like... for instance..

Visiting a page
--Grabbing X Link
---Visiting That Link
----Doing something while I'm there
-----Grab a link after I do that from this same page
------Go to that link
-------Come back to the page that I just took the link from
--------Do that repeatedly fox x times
--Going back to the original link

and repeating the process X times.. ?

If this is possible, do you know of an example of limiting a while to only looping X times.. I don't want a continuous loop, but I also wont want the result to decide if it stops or not.. I just want it to be strictly based on 1 lap, 2 laps, .. X laps, you're done. 🙂

Hey thanks again. I figured it out after a few hours of hardwork (Maybe I'll start experimenting before asking).

For anyone curious aout how to do the loop part X times it's:

$times = 5;
$iteration = 1;
$x = 0;
while ($x < $times) {

$urlpage = parse_url(nth_link($url, $iteration));
$link2 = $urlpage['host'];
echo($link2);


++$iteration;
++$x;
}

It's more commonly done, with fewer lines, with a for loop:

$times = 5; 
$iteration = 1; 
for (x = 0; $x < $times; $x++) { 
    $url = 'http://www.yahoo.com'; 
    $urlpage = parse_url(nth_link($url, $iteration++)); 
    $link2 = $urlpage['host']; 
    echo($link2); 
}

Edit: Although if "nth_link()" is the function that uses Snoopy's "fetchlinks()" you're wasting function calls. "fetchlinks()" returns an array containing all the links on a page, so alter "nth_link()" (and rename it) to return that array. Then you'll need to call it only once.
