I am new to PHP.
Could you please tell me, what is the advantage of using a smarty template with php pages.

and using just the php with out smarty templates, if i put all my html side content also in the same .php page. will there be any kind of performance difference.

when compared it with the page which is associated with a .tpl smarty template file.

If anything, using a template system would encure the performance hit. It could (a template system) however improve code maintainablity, but ive never really used it. Well designed code should use objects and functions and need very little php mixed with html.
