i cant explain this....please look.

i am doing a website (and im new to php)... i have set up a system that pulls content to the front page using the $_GET function, that bit is ok. i was wondering if anyone knows how to set content for my homepage, as i cant use the same system and i would need the homepage content to go when i click a link.

this is the code i have so far...

<? if ($GET["L"] = "")
print $home ;
else
echo ${$GET["L"]}; ?>

so basically i need $home to be default but then i need it to be replaced with $_GET["L"] if something comes up....

the website is live at www.mytag.co.uk/website ... you will notice there is no content on the homepage, click a link and stuff comes up...
please help!

one thing i think would work is if i could put a javascript onload() redirect to ?L=home script into the page, do you know if this would work?

can i just ask, how long did it take you to learn php? and how did you learn it (self taught, uni....)

i ask because im only 17 and want to learn. im starting a uni course but im worried it will be too basic...

i know html well enough just dont know the basics of php....where is the best place to start?
