Hello Everyone,

I have an email reply quote that looks like this:

testing 2

testing 1

which is how I want it to look for each reply, but by the second or third reply my message gets jumbled up like this:

testing 5

---------------RE: Jeff---------------
testing 4---------------RE: Karen---------------testing 3---------------RE: Jeff
---------------testing 2--------------RE: Karen-------------testing 1

How do I keep each reply or message on a seperate line?

Try using <br> instead of \n if it's HTML.

but my short_open_tag is set to on therefore short tags are working and when I use <br /> it is showing <br /> inside of my textarea.

I need to know how to keep the message aligned when being pulled from the database?

Use literal newlines then.

Use a literal new-line in textboxes (\n) but <br> when displaying via HTML ([man]nl2br/man can help).

The problem has been resolved, this is what needed to be done before the <textarea>:

$msg = str_replace('<br />', "\n", $msg);
$msg = preg_replace('#</textarea>#si', '&lt;/textarea&gt;', $msg);

$msg = '---------------RE: ' . $to . '---------------' . $msg . '';

$msg = preg_replace('#</textarea>#si', '&lt;/textarea&gt;', $msg);

This is pretty wasteful... if you read the man page for [man]preg_replace/man, you'll find that you should instead use a simple [man]str_replace/man.
