"SORBS.net" says my IP has been "blacklisted" - has anybody heard of them?

I just moved to a new location. I got a new Internet connection that has a different IP than I had before.

Today I sent an email to a recipient. The email came back from a MAILER-DAEMON. It said "failure notice" in the subject line.

Remote host said: 550 5.2.1 Mailbox unavailable. Your IP address 68.178.232.2 is blacklisted using SORBS-ALL. Details: Spam Received See: http://www.sorbs.net/lookup.shtml?68.178.232.2.

The problem is the blacklisted IP address above, 68.178.232.2, is not my IP address. It doesn't match my previous IP address, either.

They have got a project on the SourceForge net web site:

About my email address: A spammer got a hold of my old email address so I had to make a different one. The email address from which I sent the email is "[e-mail]" I can remember from past experience that some ISPs automatically flag email address that have generic names to the left of the "@" sign such as "info," "admin," and so forth. I'm not sure if the "news" name that I'm using is flagged by some ISPs.

Anyway, it specifically said that the IP address was flagged and didn't mention anything about my sending email address. Has anybody ever heard of this SORBS web site?

I use an Internet-based email system that is provided with a hosting that I buy from GoDaddy.

In the control panel for the email account GoDaddy has an option to "bypass the ISP's rectrictions on outgoing mail with SMTP Email Relay." Here's the way that GoDaddy has it worded.

Outgoing Mail - SMTP Relaying
Bypass ISP restrictions on your outbound emails - with SMTP Email Relay.

If I choose the above option GoDaddy will permit 250 emails per day to be sent from my account (or my IP address I think). I'm not currently using the SMTP Email Relay offered by GoDaddy.

All of this is still a little bit hazy to me so I've got to study on it some more. What I think I'll do is activate the SMTP Email Relay offered by GoDaddy and then try and re-send the email that was bounced earlier.

It worked! I activated the SMTP Email Relay offered by GoDaddy's email account and then sent the email to the same person. It got through.

Evidently GoDaddy is aware of the problem. That's why they offer the SMTP Email Relay option.
