LoopBack Adressing

I am new to PHP and am trying to utilize the REMOTE ADDR function. Whenever I do this I am always receiving the loopback address 127.0.0.1. When I do the IPCONFIG in DOS, I do get my correct IP address. I am on a LAN with a firewall. I do have other networking drivers available to use such as wireless. I have tried disabling them but with no effect. My purpose in obtaining the IP address is to determine which WinTerm I am at so I can direct label files to a specific label printer automatically and not force the user to select one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you connecting to the script via localhost?

The problem is I don't want the loopback address. I want my actual IP address and I can't seem to find the culprit on my system causing this problem. I am running XP with service pack 2 on a LAN with a firewall. I also have dial-up capability for when I am called at home for a problem (this is a laptop). I have in my system network settings a virtual network adapter which I have disabled as well as the local area connection. I would hate to have to prompt the user to get the correct printer as I want to automate this by using the IP address of their WinTerm. I hope I have explained my need better. Thanks. 🙂 🙂

The localhost address is the loopback address so it's not suprising that you get 127.0.0.1. If the web server is on a different machine you should use that machine's internal IP address to connect to it, then you should see the correct IP of the client.
