Email attachements and Database

Hello,
I have a problem, I created a form to attacht files to emails sent by php., but at the same time I want to save the information to Mysql. It works fine when I send the email with the attachement, but some how when I save the file into the database, the word document looks bad when I try to decode it.

I am using something like the example below to do the file attachement:

I also did another test (this one without sending files on emails, just saving files to mysql, see the code below) to save files into Mysql and it worked fine. but when I try to combine the the one below with the one above I get to save the file into Mysql but it looks like it is codifing the file the way it does to send it as attachement or I get an error: "query is empty".

I belive the problem got to be in the break dowm of the email attachement (base 64), I am not sure Could I use one part of the code to save the file to Mysql and then another part of the code to do the attachment to the email?? How can I do this??

How can I fix this problem and be able to sent the file as atachement and save it to Mysql like a regular file??
