linux - five button mouse

Does anyone know how to get a generic five button mouse to work in linux?
I have a micro innovations wireless mouse and keyboard set and I can't get the back and forward buttons on the sides to work.
Anyone know how to do it, or where a better place to ask would be?

What does your "InputDevice" section look like in your /etc/x11/xorg.conf file?

looks like this:

Option "Vendor" "Logitech"

I kept the logitech vendor option because all of the other options in yast rendered the mouse useless.

Have a look at the Gentoo howto. It may not applly to your specific model, but it should give you ideas to try.
