visits is "visitors". Hits is all the times some thing is loaded from the site.
Lets say I come to your site and visit the index.html page.
Lets say that page has 40 images used to make the webpage. 1 css sheet, and one javascript file. (42 download items)
the report will show 1 visit, 42 hits.
