Can't work out why update SQL isn't working

Hey all.

I've been bashing away at this one for a while and can't work out why the update isn't working. I've tried a few variations while trying to troubleshoot so this might not be the best one:

$newimage - is a directory path reference to an image

$query = "UPDATE sample_card SET sample_card_image = '".$newimage."' WHERE 'sample_card_id' = '".$sample_card_id."'";

This is the SQL that is being output:

UPDATE sample_card SET sample_card_image = '../sample_card_images/Water lilies.jpg' WHERE 'sample_card_id' = '9'

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The field name for the WHERE clause should not have any quotes, neither should really (although this might not error) any value that is numeric. So your query should look like this:

UPDATE sample_card SET sample_card_image = '../sample_card_images/Water lilies.jpg' WHERE sample_card_id = 9

Did u put your query in phpmyadmin to see if it execute correctly?
When u have code to paste into a post there is wrap [ php ] tags could u use them?
To do something like this

<?php
...
//php code
...
?>

If you want to insert and not update then uncomment your INSERT line and comment the UPDATE one.... Follow bogu's suggestion to run your SQL statement in your RDBMS

When I am not sure of the right SQl - I do run the action via phpmyAdmin to see the correct SQL - but phpmyAdmin always puts single quotes around everything so you always have to alter the code from phpMyAdmin to get it to work.

You guys help me see that there was another issue with my code and it is all working beautifully now.
