Is PEAR installed?

How can I check if my host has PEAR installed or not?

(Linux) Run "phpinfo()" and look for "--with-pear" (ver < 4.3.0) or "--without-pear" (ver >= 4.3.0) in the configure command.

OK, I found '--with-pear', but shouldn't it enable PEAR class? Or how is this PEAR working then?

(I'm just starting to learn about PEAR and it seems pretty confusing.)
