Change of Server, PHP no longer works.

Hello,

I use this code on my website:

$act = $act ? $act : "";
$page = $page ? $page : "home";

$error = 0;
if (file_exists("content/$act/$page.php"))
include "content/$act/$page.php";
else
$error = 1;

So for example, index.php?act=info whould include content/info/home.php

The problem is since I moved host (today) these links no longer work index.php?act=info this also includes the script pafiledb which i have used for over 3 years, now no longer works. The scripts just point the first page in the script for example index.php?act=info just points to index.php (which in the php code is including content/home.php) Is there a quick solution which I can do? Preferably by doing something in HTAccess as im on a clustered hosting solution.

Most likely, register_globals has been turned off. They are turned off for security reasons. As a quick fix, you can bypass this by adding this line to the top of your PHP script:

foreach ($_REQUEST as $k => $v) { $$k = $v; }

Of course, by adding that line, you are essentially saying that you don't want the security protection that comes from turning register_globals off so keep that in mind before you use this command. If you are concerned about it, search PHPBuilder.com or Google for register_globals and find out why it's turned off by default.

My guess is that your old server had register_globals set to Off in php.ini

As it stands, you should now use $_GET['act'] instead of $act when you want to access the incoming variable. Of course, you should check that the incoming variable exists using [man]isset/man or [man]empty/man before using it.

If by "sorted" you mean enabled register_globals using php_flag, then you should properly say "htaccess successfully re-opened a security flaw that has been identified and solved long ago by the PHP developers."
