Hey Sxooter - what authentication scheme do you use for connecting to Postgres? Do you just trust certain users, or do you use ident and maps, or something else?
Since I'm usually in a rush when getting Postgres going (like after my latest hard drive failure), I've always taken the path of least resistance and just set pg_hba to trust local users. I played around with ident maps briefly, but couldn't get them to work.
