Change the From address in th mail() function

I have been trying to find a way to change the name of the senders email when using the mail() function. I would like it to change the senders email address to read something like "Company Name Inc".

The problem is when I set the $from = "From: Company Name Inc"

I get the email with the from being: [email][e-mail]@[e-mail][/email]

is there anyway I can change this?

I have found that if I change it to [e-mail]

it sends the email with the from being:

[e-mail]

I would really like to have it read: "Company Name Inc" period I want to remove the @.com all together.

But then it wouldn't be a valid address. (Or at least, it would be, but only if you were on the same host as the recipient.)

The most you could do since a from address is required is in your mail() function do a header like;

'From: Company Name Inc <[e-mail]>' . "\r\n";

Many of the emails that are sent to me don't contain the senders email in the "From". Some will say something along the lines of....

From: Company Name To: [e-mail]
Subject: This is an email

.............

when I look in properties it reads like this:

"Company Name" <[e-mail]>

I'll try to be more clear about what I am trying to do, (maybe I was unclear or I'm just trying to do somthing impossible)

In my mail() function on my webpage I would like the from address in the email to read (once the client recieves the email):

From: Company Name To: [e-mail]
Subject: This is an email

Currently this is happening:

here is the code for the from variable:

$from = "Company Name";

here is the output when I recieve an email sent from the page:

From: [email][e-mail];[e-mail][/email]; To: [e-mail]

I would like to know how to change the $from = "Company Name"; so that in the recievers email it still reads:

From: Company Name.

What I showed will show up as the From address although the part

From: Company <[e-mail]>

will still be in the header, I just used it to put hy own handle but used my real email address with the

<[e-mail]>

try doing a test email using this scheme and look at the From field and that is what you should see provided the real address is enclosed in < and >
