UTF-8 Clean up

I've got a form that takes UTF-8, which is working fine.

Now I need to strip the UTF-8 down to ASCII, so that accents etc. are converted to regular (A-Z, 0-9) plain text.

For example...

Úr er skýja grátr

should become

Ur er skyja gratr

Any suggestions for how to go about this?
