So my webapp is basically keeping tab of how many licenses are used for software that each department has here at the college.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////
English Dept.
Tutor 2000 , 20 copies bought
Math Dept.
Derive 5, 100 copies bought
Intro to Cal 1.0 , 40 copies bought
Art dept.
Adobe Photoshop 7.0, 40 copies bought
//////////////////////////////////////////////////
So thats just an example of how we have departments here and how they have thier own software and how they would like to know how many licensese they have left.
When there is a classroom, the software is added to that classroom and the liceneses are used.
For example: Building: ILB room 125 has 40 computers, and this is a art class room, and adobe photoshop 7.0 is on all computers, so thats 40 liceneses used.
So the goal here is to have a page where it displays a dept. and all the software that dept has bought and the amount of licenses and display how many are left. And say we had this page up, it would say something like:
Art dept.
Adobe Photoshop 7.0, 40 copies bought, 0 left
Now I have my webapp up right now but I think I need to do some restructuring with the database in order to get this done, here is the current set up:
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
softroom[rid, sid, added, total]
example: adding room 101, software Flash with id 22, and date, and copies used
softroom[1, 22, 20041212, 20]
software[id, title, version, site, ltype, lnum, platform]
example: adding software flash id 22, title, version, site, license type, licenses bought, and platform
software[22, flash, 2004, www.macwahtever.com, site, 400]
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
But the problem is that each software title doesnt knwo which dept. it belongs to.
Do I need to add a department table? Or do I just add a "dept" field to the table "software" so that it would be:
software[id, title, version, site, ltype, lnum, platform, dept]
