php error with mysql

hello
i install php 4 & do all the changes , after than i try to run a php file which contains

but i get the error at the end of the page like this ...

Well you don't need to have the html and body tags

Exactly what changes did you make.

Looks like an improper or incomplete install. What is the OS...Windows, MAC or Linux? What is the webserver? IIS, PWS, or Apache? Like ClarkF1 said all you need is;

but the code is not the issue .. main problem is the error which i am getting ..

please some tells me why i am getting this ...

phpinfo(); is juts a fucntion i used for check php is running properly or not ..

please help me , y i am getting this ..

i have windows xp with iis5 , i have insatlled apace2 & mysql & php4 on my pc.
i want php4 run on my pc with asp...
i dont wantt o run xampp ,etc.. please tell me after reading these .. please !

You can only use one web server at a time. You can run IIS or Apache, but not both. You have to stop one of the servers and depending on what all you want to do. You can install PHP and MySQL on IIS and you can also put ASP on IIS (ASP is windows only). Apache can run PHP and MySQL as well but not ASP, so if you want to run ASP get rid of the Apache and install PHP and MySQL and ASP to it. There is a windows installer for IIS so download that file from php.net and let the installer run, accept the defaults as you go through the install process and you should have when the install is complete a working PHP.

soory i forget to mention here . that i change default port for localhost
now its running on port81
like
http://localhost:81/

and apacahe is working on port 80 (default)..
so i am able to run apache& iis both

.. now is that infor help me more ..

Then to effortlessly and for an error free install of Apache plus PHP plus MySQL then I would strongly recommend that you either use XAMPP or WAMP. You have been working on this problem now for three days. XAMPP and WAMP are installtion tools that will set up a working Apache webserver with MySQL and PHP and in the case of XAMPP it will also set up Perl. XAMPP also has a script that allows you to use PHP4 or PHP5. I you download and install XAMPP or WAMP within 10 minutes of downloading the software you will be using PHP and or MySQL on an Apache server, or you can keep asking questions till you finally get it fixed.

i don't want to use XAMPP , coz i have to use IIS ...
can u tell me w\y i am gett thiung the error ..

You are saying that you want Apache and IIS and if you are having problems installing Apache with PHP and MySQL then this is why I pointed out to ues XAMPP it stands for Apache MySQL PHP and Perl and what XAMPP does is installs APACHE MYSQL PHP and PERL on your machine that is all it does and it does it with no errors.

I gave you a link to the Windows installer, download and runthat installer and your IIS will work then if you don't want an easy install then go back to the same link that I gave for the Windows installer and there are instructions on how to set up PHP on that same page. (All XAMPP is is a fancy installer and the same for WAMP which stands for Windows Apache MySQL PHP). Go to that link and after following the instructions you should have PHP running on IIS, you might need to remove what you have done already, I am not sure I quit using IIS five years ago, and only use Apache.

Did you visit the man page "[man]install.windows.iis[/man]" and follow the instructions along the lines of "To use the ISAPI module, do the following:" ?

If not, try that. If you can't follow those instructions, try following my little how-to in this post.

OK this same guy posted the same post on Dev Shed on the 23rd of this month, I believe he needs to do one thing at a time. He want to run IIS on posrt 80 with PHP and MySQL and ASP, and he also wants to run Apache with PHP (some other version I guess) and MySQL running on port 81. Plus add on top of that that he has a language barrier [English is not his native language] This is one reason I suggested an easy anquick solution for Apache, but he keeps coming up with new stuff.

In my own opinion the process should be first build one system, and then when that works correctly then add another, however he seems to want to do it all at once with a hard time explaining just what it is he wants to do. I say set up the Windows first, then worry about the rest, and while it is possible for it to be done sometimes you might need to take one step at a time. Four days and now all he has is a damned mess and no amount of suggestions seems to work either due to langauge (communication difficulties) or even stubborness!
