$headers = 'Reply-To [e-mail]' ???Not working

Hello these instructions someone gave me to get my "From: "in my email to give my own email address as follows...

$headers = 'From: [e-mail]' . "\r\n" .
'Reply-To: [e-mail]' . "\r\n" .
'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion();

I am doing something wrong. I am getting this error message from the server. This is what the server message says.

"[e-mail]

We're sorry. There's a problem with the e-mail address(es) you're trying
to send to. Please verify the address(es) and try again."

I was told to enter my isp in the from and the reply as you can see above. I took that as meaning my server IP address. Is this incorrect? If it is the IP how to I write it, as numbers with the usual periods in between or something else.

If it isn't the IP but an ISP what exactly do you mean? Do you mean my host has its own ISP address that I can refer to? Or is there an individual ISP for each hosted account? Let me know please, thanks a lot!

IP Address and Internet Service Provider are two totally different things. One is 4 sets of numbers, separated by periods, another is a company that provides internet service.

You would use your ISP's hostname, or domain name, such as yahoo.com, for the from and reply-to.

That being said, have you tried sending this e-mail to other addresses on other servers, such as yahoo or gmail?

One thing you might try is changing the ending of your headers from a carriage return and a line feed to just a line feed (\n).

Thanks. OK I'll try that. Sound like you are saying that all I need is my own email address in that ISP area? Because that is what I already have and am getting an error message because of it. I'll see if this helps at least in the meantime until I get other suggestions.

The From: merely needs to be a valid email address (your own should do). Just use the one that you would normally get email using your e-mail client like Outlook or Outlook Express, or Messenger or Thunderbird.

Well that kind of what I thought you meant thanks. I am using my own email address so there must be something else up. I'll check with the server.
