Getting started!

I understand there seems to be a lot of articles out the on how to setup a PHP/MySQL server. I just cannot seem to get my head wrapped around how to do it. I have so many questions that are not answered in these articles. I am hoping to find someone who can step me thru this process. I was hoping who ever could do it would be willing to use Yahoo or Skype to communicate my way thru it. I am a graphic designer who makes websites and is pretty darn good at Flash. I would be more then happy to trade my knowledge for knowledge, whether it is, I do design work for you or show you Photoshop, Illustrator, or Flash. If someone could help me it would be really appreciated. I have attached my biggest concerns and what I need most help with.

Can you step me thru setting up a fully operational MySQL / PHP web testing server on separate machine on my network?

a. Is it easier to set this up on a Mac or PC?
b. What is needed? Hardware? Software?

Show me how to upload files to and run them to see if they are working.
Show me how to create a MySQL Database.
Show me how to connect to that database using PHP.
How to then export that database from my test server and upload it to my host.

I would usually shrug this kind of post off, but if you are serious about trading services - I will help you out. I am pretty good with PHP and have setup my own web and mail servers before. I may not have all the answers, but I have most and am good with google. 🙂

By trading services, I mean -> I am pretty good with photoshop (taken Photoshop I and II in college ...need to take III... and been toying with it for a while) but I still have questions about certain techniques and how to do stuff.
