send my database an email

I'm looking for a way to take the contents of an email and load them automatically into a database.

An example may help...

We have a project tracking application -- if someone uploads something or posts a comment, the entire project "group" recieves a notification email. I'm wanting to allow people to reply to this email and have it post as a comment.

If possible, I would also need to be able to pass some variables like which upload/comment they were replying to...

I'm sure there is a way but it's hard to search for since the key words "email" "database" are all over for other stuff...

Have you made an attempt at code for this so far is it just still in the idea stage? I would create a new table in the database just for this and then for the email part would limit it to the donfines of the TEXT data type which is 64k (a rather large email). But not seeing what you have it is hard to say. As far as knowing what or where the email came from just use a hidden field on a form and pass that data as formid = 'complaints' or formid = 'suggestions' etcetera then also have an email field as well as username and or password field, but this is just my opinion.

Look at bogu's post:

=> Set a specific email address for the mailtinglist replies, which goes into a mailbox which is not emptied
=> When somebody replies to a complaint, the email arrives at the mailbox
=> When you logon to the complaints website, pull the email from the mailbox, and parse the messagebodies on a website, or even as a mailbox, or get the new messages, and push them to the database of which you run a website

ok, yes and thanks! i'm going to move my silly questions over to the code forum -- need to sort out decoding the messages before i can write to the db!
