Hello.

Can anybody tell me how to delete cookies with a Microsoft Internet Explorer running on a Windows Millenium operating system?

I'm testing a web site that has cookies. I'm trying to figure out where the IE browser stores cookies and how to delete them. I used to know but I forgot.

I am accustomed to using the FireFox browser. I hardly ever use the IE browser.

It's puzzling - but most users use the Internet Explorer browser rather than the FireFox or some other browser.

The "Help" section under the Start tab doesn't even mention how to delete cookies.

I did a search on Google using the term "delete cookie internet explorer" and here's the page that came up at the top:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=278835

Here's what it said about how to delete cookies:

Microsoft Windows 98 and later
1. Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
2. In Control Panel , double-click Internet Options.
3. On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
4. Click OK.

There's a slight problem with the Microsoft solution. Under the General tab there is no button that says "Delete Cookies."

My version of Windows stores cookies in the Cookies folder like so:
C:\Windows\Cookies

I could manually delete them but Windows also stores duplicate copies of cookies under some other folder.

I can't even find a cookie that is set with the web site that I am developing. I know it's in there somewhere because it's functioning on the web site when I use the Internet Explorer browser.

I'm sure that everybody already knows this but the Windows OS is not too good in some areas.

I would appreciate any help.

Tools, internet options, general tab (the 1 it opens to), click delete cookies button

      Start Internet Explorer.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.

In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.

      Click View Files.

On the View menu, click Details.

Click the Internet Address column header, and then find the Internet addresses of the cookie files. For example, a cookie Internet address may be named similar to the following name:

      Cookie:username@websitename.com

Click a cookie file, and then press DELETE.

If you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the file, click Yes.

Repeat this step for each cookie file.

Or just update your internet explorer to a version released in the past 4 years 🙂

Then you should be able to use "delete cookies" to delete them all at once.
