Copy Image from another site

I have two sites, on one site i've got a heap of images, on my second site i want to get a image

$filename = "http://www.myfirstsite.com/image.jpg";

and copy it reszie it then distroy it after... can this be done and if so how?? i know copyresize does not allow http://www files so is there another way?

You should use www.php.net/imagecopyresampled

It has a sample of how to do it.

The imagecreatefromjpeg() will load a remote file.

[man]imagecopyresized[/man] doesn't allow URLs or files (read the manual if you don't believe me) so it's no surprise that it doesn't work when you try it with a URL. It expects you to supply an image resource created by using something like [man]imagecreatefromjpeg[/man].

The above code doesn't work because you've not got enough error handling and/or logging, and you haven't explained how it fails and what you see on the error log.

Look in the manual for [man]getimagesize/man and you'll see it expects a filename as a parameter, not a resource.

I would recommend first copying the image into a temp folder using a temp name, and then performing the operations on that temp file. That way you don't make more than 1 HTTP request.

That should make it work.
Are you wanting to store the thumbnail ?
If you do, you will need to add a filename to the imagejpeg().
like this imagejpeg($filename , $localfile);

"No route to host" - from my experience, this is an issue that lies with the server itself, not PHP. If you don't own the server, you'll want to contact the technical support staff of your provider.

I would guess that you have some kind of "hot linking" protection on that website.

It could also just be a hellishly slow server and the connection is timing out (check it out! 47 bytes/second!) The fact that only one third of the image file is actual image data, and the rest is typical Photoshop Bloat, doesn't help any.

You might want to check those parts of your setup out.
