Frames alternative

Hello,

I am relatively new to PHP and pretty much all web development languages. I am trying to come up with a simple picture viewing/manipulation gallery and want to divide my page into two sections. I will try to describe it the way I "envision" it... on the left side of thr page is a scrollable section that will allow the user to scroll through the images in the directory they have selected in an earlier page. The images are thumbnails. The user can click on any of these images and it appears in the right section of the page, large. Here the user can rotate, zoom, etc. This site (http://photoframe.sourceforge.net/demo/) does the majority of what I want, except you can't manipulate the picture once you click on it. Also, I do not want to use frames. Nor do I want to try to chop this site up and make it work, I find that with my lack of experience that ends up being a waste of time. I guess this excessively long post boils down to a simple question on how to get started. How can I mimic this site by including 2 php files that will support the two different sections within the main php page, and allow the user to scroll betweet the thumbnails. I'm sure I will have questions regards the image manipulation, but those may come later. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hm.. The site you link to is a pretty simple and straightforward page to build.. I am actually surprised to see that it is on sourceforge.

The main problem would be to create a scrolling area on the left, which I would do with CSS, and a fixed-size <div>.

You could probably grab all the sources from the project, and start from there
