XAMMP Apache config issues

Good day,
I have installed XAMMP (for windows, used the installer version). Apache and mySQL run fine according to the control panel. I can bring up //localhost/ with no issues, but when I pull up a simple Hello World .php page (source from w3 tutorial, so no issues there) I see nothing. Searched on the PHP site, they had it in their FAQ, said to check to see if the source could be view from browser, it could. They go on to say that there are issues with the server config and to fix it. After searching high and low (maybe I've missed something) I cannot find a solution. That said, I'm not sure what I am actually looking for, to be quite frank.

So then, is there any way to fix this easily?

That sounds strange if it is a fresh installation. Whats the exact code you are putting in?

Code is:

<html>
<body>

<?php
echo "Hello World";
?>

</body>
</html>

saved in HelloWorld.php (yes, I know, quite original 😉 )

Is it in the htdocs folder?

It wasn't but I just tried and it still won't display.

All php and html document must be in the htdocs folder to work with the server. Suppose you named that file hello.php and placed it in the htdocs folder then open your browser and typed http://localhost/hello.php then you should see your file.
