Hi,

I would like to try and make my IP adress not visible to outsiders.

When I go on forums, the admin is able to see my actual IP and I do not like that...

Is there a way to "mask" your ip address? I am a complete noob with this....

Thanks!

No there is not. The internet relies on sending an IP address to any machines you communicate with so that the responses can be routed correctly.

You may see lots of stuff about IP spoofing - but if you spoof your IP address, then the returned messages can't be received - making it useless for communication in most cases.

You could of course use a proxy server - but then they would get the IP address of that instead, so the problem would remain. Some proxies also pass the original IP address in a header.

It's not a big deal and you shouldn't worry about it. There are a lot of companies etc, exploiting the paranoia about IP addresses - like those banners "Warning - your computer is sending an IP address..." etc. It's rubbish. Ignore it.

Likewise, firewalls / routers which support "Cloaking" options, are based on false premises. It is not going to make your machine less secure to have it respond to pings.
