help in query, grouping result

hi,

having one table like that ex:

table: LINKS [id_link] [link_name] [link] [subject]

and if i woulf the result of all links by subject ex:

PHP
www.asd.com
www.jhkjhg.com

MYSQL
www.dfgfd.com
www.dsfs.com
www.dsfdsa.com

how can i create the query? because when i execute the query:

SELECT * from links
GROUP BY subject

i just have as result the first row of each diferent subject :bemused:

any sugestion, please!!! :o

group by query will retrieve only the first row for that subject

u need to use two queries..
check the code below

$qry = "SELECT from links GROUP BY subject";
$rs = mysql_query($qry);
while($dt = mysql_fetch_array($rs)){
echo $dt['subject'];
$qry1 = "select from links where subject = '".$dt['subject']."'";
$rs1 = mysql_query($qry1);
while($dt1=mysql_fetch_array($rs1)){
echo $dt1['link']."<br>";
}

A single query is sufficient. Just check for when the subject changes to new value then echo it.

$sql = "SELECT subject , link_name
		FROM LINKS
		ORDER BY subject";
$res = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error());

$prev_subject = '';
while (list($sub, $name) = mysql_fetch_row($res)) {

		// is it a new subject?
if ($prev_subject != $sub) {
	echo "<br/><b>$sub</b><br/>";
}
echo "$name<br/>";
$prev_subject = $sub;
}
