[RESOLVED] Weird HTML?

Hi there

We're working together with a graphic designer that wants us to add some PHP to his static website.

When got his pages, I saw, to my suprise, that every reference he makes to either images or stylesheets or whatnot, are preceeded by a /. For example, an image would be referenced like <img src="/images/logo.gif">, eventhough to my mind, it should be <img src="images/logo.gif"> because I'm in the root folder, looking to go up one. And sure enough, his code doesn't work on my localhost, only when i strip the first slash.

I'm developing on windows, but our servers are linux. The way he's done it works on neither. What's going on here? Is there some setting in apache that I need to change to make it work with the / in front? It must have worked for him, but obviously the way our servers are set up, it doesn't.

I really don't want to go through all his pages and remove the leading slash.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Well with a good editor all you would have todo is search and replace all occurances of "/, and I would let the graphics designer see the problem and either have him correct the problem or charge him for fixing it, if they want their mess to work.

So it definitely is a design error? Or is his apache configured differently to mine? On second thought, maybe he has a domain set up for the site...in that case it would work. But for dev purposes, when working off an IP or localhost, it's really crap!

means that folder
'/images/'
is located in Server Document root

<img src="images/logo.gif">
means that folder
'images/'

is located IN SAME directory as HTML page

suppose you put index.html and /images/ folder
in a subfolder to root

www.google.com/mypages/index.html
www.google.com/mypages/images/logo.gif

and in
mypages/index.html
you have <img src="/images/logo.gif">
this is the same as asking for
www.google.com/images/logo.gif

will not find that IMAGE!

Bottomline:
using <img src="images/logo.gif"> ..... without a leading /
will work if you move your code and files to some other folder
It will work also if you have your stuff in server root folder

<img src="/images/logo.gif">
will work only if your /images/ folder files are in SERVER root
www.google.com/images/
