Working with sessions

Hi all,

i have a php page that needs to create a unique number, for every time the page is opened...
What i need..

session to be unique
increment by 1 (if possible)

im think it would be possible in mysql, although i have never done anything with sessions before. im just unsure how to stop multiple people using the same unique number if two reads are done before a write.

any info you have found help would be appreciated...
