Reading Files

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to read files or do a opendir() outside of root directory etc. rather than doing a opendir("C:\temp"); do a opendir("D:\temp");

PHP can access any directory that the user it is running as has the permissions to access. [man]opendir[/man] will return FALSE and generate an E_WARNING error if PHP does not have read access to the specified directory.

This is of course assuming that there are no Safe Mode restrictions in effect. For more information about Safe Mode, visit this manual page: [man]features.safe-mode[/man]. Unless I'm mistaken, you can find out if you're scripts are being run under Safe Mode by looking at the output of phpinfo().
